From Linda Holland, Programme Director

The High Potential Scheme is an innovative and exciting new NHS Leadership Academy Programme that offers bespoke career development to help high potential, aspiring mid-level leaders accelerate their career to senior health and care roles at a faster pace.

Applications for the High Potential Scheme have been open since 29th July 2019 and will close on 8th September 2019.  As first national pilot for the scheme, we have been delighted by the high level of interest in this new programme from NHS organisations across our STP.

Over the next few months we will be completing the assessment process for the scheme, aiming to confirm successful applicants by early December 2019.  The participant launch event will take place on 29th January 2019.

20 participants will form our first cohort of high potential, aspiring middle level leaders.  The 24 month programme will help them accelerate their career within Staffordshire to senior executive roles at a faster pace.  As a pilot group they will also have the opportunity to shape the programme, through their feedback, thus informing the national roll-out of the scheme.

A key part of the scheme is identifying suitable development opportunities for the participants to undertake.  This key project activity is currently taking place and it is exciting to see organisations across the STP working together to support the development of talent across the system; the HPS acting as a catalyst for further collaboration.

Applications close on Sunday 8 September 2019. More information is available at www.twbstaffsandstoke.org.uk/HPS.

Three of our Stepping Up Programme graduates presented at the July Health and Care Transformation Board, sharing their stories, experiences and hopes for the future with the Board. Following this, a forum has been set up for the end of October to learn and hear more about the experiences of the Programme to discuss how we can further support the Stepping Up Alumni with career development and how we can ensure, as a system, that we are developing our talented BAME leaders.
